IBM launched the first smartphone across the globe, named Simon. This was an analog mobile phone with various features such as email, a calendar, and fax capabilities, that was introduced in 1994. Even predictive writing was incorporated into the touch screen user interface.
However, Simon had a least battery life of only one hour. It was also somewhat of a failure; according to different reports, the device was only on the market for six months and sold only 50,000 units.
